Question:
Last summer we went out camping in a tent trailer I had gotten so we could
try it. it had to have a lot of repairs but it was very comfortable to camp
and now we've decided we want something a bit bigger. near the end of the
season last year we saw an Apache "Solid State" for sale and since our
budget will allow us only so much restoration after buying another trailer
I thought i'd be well to locate one of these in decent enough shape that we
could use it this year. I like the idea of not having canvass and it might
even get us out in colder weather thus extending our season. So .. um does
anyone have one they want to part with?
Answer:
-You might want to rethink this. Although the Apache hard
side is a nice looking trailer, the idea is lacking in
practicality. There are many who are willing to put up with
cracking walls etc. but it wouldn't make for a good camping
experience for me.
One problem seems to be the need to have the unit level.
Apparently you can't have the frame twisted or you have
alignment problems with the walls.
Just for grins, why not check into Skamper tent trailers.
They have water proof walls and were pretty popular so there
should be plenty of them available. No tent camper is going
to be as warm as a solid side trailer when the frost is on
the punkin'. Just-a-thought
-You may be interested in this. We have a 1977 Apache Roma. We
are looking to sell it soon. It does need some work. My husband
replaced windows on the door side of the camper. The other side could
use replacing. We love it as far as its roomy. I love it for the hard
side quality. It pulls very nice behind a truck. The inside cabinetry
has been replaced with solid wood. I slept in a popup canvas and it
was like being in a tent!
