Question:
I have a chance to buy an Apache pop-up trailer that I thought was a
tent trailer, but the sides are hard - no canvas. It is big - looks
to be about fifteen feet long closed. Price is reasonable BUT the
lifting mechanism doesn't work right. Anyone had any experience
fixing these - is it possible or should I pass on the chance? Not
really sure the age but I'd guess 15+ years old?
Answer:
-I bought a used Apache about 2 years ago and our family loves it. The only
thing I don't like is its only 6 feet wide (and I'm 6'3"), so the beds are
too short.
Since Apache is no longer around (I think), it can be hard to get parts.
( there is a sourse somewhere, I'm sure someone in this group could help)
I don't know about lift mechanism repairs, so far mine works fine
-From what I've been able to gather, Apache owners are a very dedicated
bunch. They typically like the trailers a lot, are somewhat good at
fixing things and find it well worth the trouble to keep them going.
The gearboxes seem to be the items that wear out the quickest, although
it appears you can get replacement parts for them. You might try to
give Bob Edwards riwri...@ids.net or Dick Lucas luc...@hpcc01.corp.hp.com
(as well as other owners who respond to this posting) a message requesting
information as they are experienced owners of the Apache.
