Question:
I have a 12' Jayco pop-up camper. I just got an awning for it and put
it on today.
I notice that when the awning is on and the ropes are tightened to the
ground, it tends to pull the top of the camper with it a bit.
Is this unusual? Does it happen on your camper?
Or Is it harmful to the lift system?
Answer:
-I have a 12' Jayco popup also and our awning is held to th ground by the
bottom of the polls. We don't have any ropes. They may have changd the
mounting ours is a 1995 Jayco. Sorry I couldn't help to much. BTW
We love our Jayco.
-I've got a Jayco and the awning doesn't require ropes, if wind is a factor the
support poles can be staked to the ground......If your awning requires ropes and
is pulling too much you might try counterbalancing ropes on the other side of the
camper........re potential damage don't know for sure but one time we were in a location with
some high wind that moved the top around pretty well so I attached guy ropes to tie
points I have on my camper on all four corners....I put some fairly strong tension
on the lines and experienced no problems with the lift system since from the downward
pressure that was exerted
-I was having the same problem with the awning on my Coleman popup
until I realized that the ropes aren't supposed to be used to pull out
on the awning, but to stake it to the ground. I usually drive stakes
into the ground next to the poles or tie the rope to rocks sitting
next to the poles. My awning has separate poles that run parallel to
the ground and hold the awning out.
