Question:
My parents just sold their 1991 Trailmanor camper. I don't know the
model number, but it may be enough to state that it is one of the
hard-sided units which you must manually open and then unfold the
bathroom walls, etc. The camper has traveled from NJ to the South for a
couple of months in each of the first 7 years they owned it, so it was
well used. It was also well cared for, though they had had a few
problems. The holding tank was cracked, the spring needed to be
re-shimmed on one side to help with opening, and they had also had a few
axle problems over the years.
I am wondering where I could get a real rough estimate of what this
camper was worth. I'm embarrassed to say here how much they got for
it. In other words, I'd like to know how badly they were taken.
Answer:
-Go on over to http://www.nadaguides.com/valueshome.html. NADA
classifies Trailmanor in the "Travel Trailer/Fifth Wheel" portion of
the 'Consumer - Recreation Vehicle Appraisal Guide' section of their
on-line guide.
Once you have selected the model year, you'll have to know the
interior length of this Trailmanor model in order to receive an
estimate of the trailer's value.
-They certainly did get a lot of use out of it -- much more than most, I'm sure.
And you're right, I really shouldn't care what they got for it as long as
they're happy. I had no intention of telling them what they could/should have
gotten, but I wanted to be prepared for questions from them, or especially from
my brother and sister.
BTW, they did get "way less than $2000." They got $1100. The retail book value
is about $4-6K, not considering the many things they threw in, nor subtracting
for the problems. The price was low, but they have gained some driveway space
back. I guess that's worth something!
