Question:
I have an older model ('94) Stardust StarCraft pop-up camper that my dog
decided to use as a chew toy. He managed to tear one of the right (facing
the door) panels which is removable and that I plan to replace. He also
managed to shred my screen that is attached to the bunk-head.
Any ideas for some ways for me to temporarily patch the damange until I can
get parts? One side needs some canvas repair and the other some screen
work. It is about a 4-5 inch l-shaped hole next to the door. Thanks in
advance for your ideas.
Answer:
For A: Sewing on a patch by hand would be the best temporary repair.
See the Speedy Stitcher sewing awl, sold in outdoors and boating
stores. Alternately, you could try iron on canvas patches or denim
ones, if a helper holds a block of wood on the other side as you iron
them.
For B: hardware stores sell screen patching things, including a patch
of screen material with little hooks at the edges to work into the
existing screen. If you can remove the frame for the screen, they may
be able to replace the screening completely for a good as new repair.
Happy trails,
