Question:
I just bought a 1968 shasta 13' camper. is there someone that has
information about this year or somewhere close? Also the roof had a
leak thats been fixed but the ceiling needs to be fixed (a couple
small holes) what is the best way to fix it?
Answer:
-Just my honest opinion, it isn't worth fixing. The Shasta
wasn't that great a trailer to begin with and an old leaky
one is worth next to nothing. If it leaked, it has major rot
in the wood framework and just patching a couple of holes
won't do much to "fixing" it
-OTOH, if it hasn't fallen apart yet, it can provide many miles of
enjoyment still. I wouldn't put a lot of money into it, obviously, but
if the frame, axle and wheels are sound, go for it.
I assume the holes are in the inner lining. If they're small, I'd
probably just glue or glue and pop-rivet some kind of sheet material
over them. Find something that looks like it's an added decoration :-)
If the holes go through to the outer shell, you can do the same -
sheet aluminum, pop rivets and caulk.
As for information, I had a Shasta about the same vintage, and never
did find much information. You really don't need much. I do seem to
remember that one had non-standard wiring to the connector, so you
might want to double-check. I bought mine for a song, put a few
dollars in it, and towed it for over 12,000 miles in two years, then
sold it for a small profit. We didn't have much money, but we had fun
