Question:
has anyone made the transition from a pop-up to a hybrid trailer such
as the jayco kiwi?? If so what are your thoughts??
Answer:
We jumped from a Coleman Pop-Up to the Starcraft hybrid. It is so much nicer
with the hybrid. We can load/unload the camper without having to raise and
lower the roof. When we are traveling, we can put the table down and sleep
without having to lower the sides(beds). Our Coleman had nice accessories
but nothing beats a nice toilet/shower, refrigerator, stove, hot water
heater, A/C and a furnace. And the hybrid weigh almost the same as the
pop-up.
Two years ago we had gone to the RV show at the University of Notre Dame.
TraiLite had just came out with the very first one. Last year Starcraft and
Jayco and a few others came out with some. We narrowed it down to a Jayco
Kiwi and a Starcraft (who is now owned by Jayco) The Aqualon canvas and a
few dealer incentives made the Starcraft the choice for us. Our tow vehicle
is a Honda Passport (3.6L V6 with transmission cooler). It tows the
Starcraft rather easily but I wouldn't pull it over the mountains with the
Honda.
I live here in Elkhart county where Starcraft, Jayco, Damon, Dutchmen and
others are manufactured. Industry insiders tell me that newer stripped down
hybrids are in the works, making them even more affordable.
