Question:
We are from Canada and are looking for a new tent trailer. Does
anyone have any suggestions for manufactureres, floor plans, options,
etc.?
I would really appreciate the advice.
Answer:
-I just went through the same thing. I looked at Coleman, Jayco, Starcraft,
Bonair, Rockwood. Coleman has a reputation for quality and I think it's
probably deserved, but their floorplans are not as nice/useful as Jayco or
Starcraft (my opinion). Bonair and Rockwood didn't seem to have the same
level of sophistication as the others but were somewhat less expensive.
Jayco seems to put the most work into design - for example they have floor
plans with doors on both sides of the box and U-shaped dinettes. Bonair is
Canadian which may account for some of the lower price.
For what it's worth, we opted for Jayco. But I doubt you'd go far wrong with
any of them. I think you have to find a floor plan and options you're
comfortable with and suits your camping lifestyle. Oh, and you should read the
FAQ on this group which has some good stuff about what to look for in a pop-up.
-There are so many choices that it is impossible to say what is best. It all
depends on what YOU like. The only way to find that out is to look at a
lot of pop-ups. The best way to do that is to attend a RV Show or two.
There you can see many brands and models close to each other so you can
go back and forth to see what you like best.
Before you start looking though, find out how much your car can tow. That way
you will not waste time looking (wanting) at a trailer that is too heavy.
