Question:
I need a recommendation for heating my new Coleman pop-up. I did not
feel that $500 for a builtin heater was justified. Any recommendations
welcome.
Answer:
-I have a Coleman pop-up and when it was purchased even the dealer seemed
to feel that the additional price for the built-in furnace was too much
(honest guy!).
The dealer suggested that, for trips where electricity was available, one
of the ceramic heaters (available in any hardware/home center in various
sizes) is the safest and was what most people seem to be happy with. For
non-electrical sites, kerosene heaters are also available in various sizes
but you need to be sure and read the safety procedures on them and
maintain proper ventilation.
-heater helps, as does a 'heater strip' in the air conditioner. But,
since you have basically a canvas tent, you wont ever have it as you
would in a travel trailer. For sleeping, an electric blanket is a nice
option that we use. Stick with it for at least a year. We have become
all-year-round campers and love it. The different challenges of the
different seasons adds a variety to the experience. Enjoy!
