Question:
I was wondering, what are the most lightweight RV in the 22 - 31 foot range ?
We saw some trail manors that are fold ups that are very light, a 27 footer
weighs about 2500 pounds, but the storage space is inadequate. This is because there
is no overhead storage or bunks due to it needing to fold up. I suppose you could
put your own storage furniture or stackable drawers in it to help out, but overall
it had far less storage than other RVs. We saw some star craft and star light trailers
that ran 3000 to 3500 pounds 25 to 28 feet, 7 feet wide.
One thing about the trail manors is it had a low point water drain so you
could drain all of the water and not need to put antifreeze in the system, this
would be a big advantage since I often leave my RV in the winter for several
days at a time, with a setup like that I could easily drain the water without
having to put antifreeze in and when I got back just put the water back in. Why
don't travel trailers work that way ?
Answer:
There are lots of lightweights out there some collapse like the
trailmanor and hi-lo. Some have combo hard sides and canvas tip outs for
sleeping in ala tent trailers - these include Trail-Lite(Bantum)
Aerolite(Cub) and Rockwood. Lightweight hard sides include Trail-lite,
Aerolite, Komfort, Fleetwoods new ultralight, and Airstream's new Bambi.
There is also Sunline and Sunlite, and Jayco to name a few. Most have models
in both 7 and 8' wide and from 19-30' long. Floorplans include bunk bed
models, double bed models and some with both. Fleetwood just put their new
'99 line up on the web at WWW.FLEETWOOD.COM Trail-Lite is also on the web at
WWW.TRAIL-LITE.com Sunline a nd Jayco also have sites. As for me I owned a
Komfort lite for the last 13 years and just bought a new 1999 21' Trail-Lite.
I tow it with an '89 Astro.
