Question:
Any body traveling or camping in a dutchmen travel trailer ? what do you
think of there workmenship?
Answer:
-Dutchmen trailers and fifthwheels have not been traditionally noted for
high quality workmanship. The philosophy they adhere to is offering a
whole lot of features as standard at a low price.
If you take a walk through the product, pay close attention to the
counter tops, cabinetry, fabrics. Not what you'd call quality fit and
finish. The basis structure is typical of todays travel trailers and
the appliances are of a common make.
If it's real quality you're looking for, you may be well off looking
at a used trailer of a better make or plan on spending a bit more for a
new one. If price is your motivating factor, it's tough to beat this
low priced unit. As with most things, you tend to get what you pay for.
-I have a Dutchmen tent trailer ans am very disappointed in the quality and
service. We have had had many minor problems with the rig. Leaking faucet
when in the folded-up travel position. Caused the table to delaminate, not to
mention damp cushions when you open up to set up. Dealer tried 3 times to fix
and finally went out and bought a $ .10 rubber pipe cap to put over it. Many
other minor problems and failures of parts which should not have broken so soon
in a $5,000 camping trailer.
I have had Starcraft (20) and Jayco, and I think they were all better built and
designed. The only reason I went with the Dutchmen was for the side dinette
feature and because the former Jayco dealer was now selling them instead of
Jayco.
We will be selling and getting a 5th wheel this spring and you can be sure it
will NOT be a Dutchmen (or anything else built by Thor Industries). Feel free
to email for additional info.
