Question:
Awhile back I asked about what brand would be the lightest
type of small TT. Since getting answers and checking web
sites we decided on either a Burro,Cassita, or Scamp.
The problem is we can't find a used one!
What's up with this?
I've been watching the papers for a long time, and
this weekend we did a round-Southwest Fla tour to
look around at lots. I didn't see a single small
fiberglass TT. We've got to stay under 2000 lbs
because of the car we're pulling it with.
Is this just a bad time of year? I suppose that maybe
people aren't selling them because summer's coming.
Any hints where to find one of these things?
Anybody in Fla want to part with one cheap?
Answer:
-They're rare as hen's teeth and worth their weight in gold. I have a
1990 13.5 ft. Bigfoot and you cant' have it! It GVW's at 1,500 lbs,
has stove, fridge, furnance, brakes and sleeps 3.
The problem being that it costs almost as much to build one this size
as it does a 17 - 19 ft trailer....so no-one wants to pay $15,000+
(can) for a new one. Bigfoot hasn't built this size in 5 or 6 years.
The only ones that appear locally (BC) are Bolers and Trilliums out of
the mid - late '70s. They sell for around $2,500 (can) and they sell
fast.
-We also looked for a long time for a light weight used travel trailer and
finally ended up with a Taylor Coach. As it happens they have their
factory just a few kilometers from us in Waterdown, Ontario.
Brad Taylor has been making lightweight TT's for years and took over from
his dad. he makes them one-by-one in his factory and we are very impressed
by our.
We could not afford a new one, so bought a used one from someone he knew.
Our's is 19', weighs 2500 dry, and was built in 1987.
If you need to find him, try information under Taylor Coach in Milgrove,
Ontario.
