Question:
I am looking to upgrade to a travel trailer from a Coleman Pop-up and have
been looking at the Mallard Model 29Y from Fleetwood because of the 4 bunks
in the rear. I would like to ask a few questions:
1. How is the quality of construction on the Mallard line by
Fleetwood?
2. Can anyone comment on Fleetwoods customer service policies and
warranty work?
Due to our towing capacity we are limited to a vehicle with a GVW rating not
in excess of 6,500 lbs and with three kids and the inevitable friends we
like the idea of the quad bunks .. can anyone recommend any other brands
that might fit our needs?
Answer:
-Do a search on this NG for "fleetwood" and for "avion" and your questions will
be answered. If you want to e-mail me, I'll be delighted to share our
Fleetwood Nightmare story (and that of many other folks) with you. You can
also find many of the horror stories on the RV Consumer Group website.

-Here is my horror story about a Fleetwood product:
The trailer is a 1980 23' foot Prowler travel trailer - so bear in
mind that it is 20 years old.
I had to replace the upright wood frame members at both rear corners
last year (19 years) because of wood rot. I believe this occurred
because I have not had the opportunity to use the trailer more than
once every two years or so for the past 9 years.
The furnace will no longer ignite - probably because it has not been
lit in the past 9 years while the trailer sat out in the back yard.
I lived in the trailer full time for the first six years that I owned
it and had no problems whatsoever - so I can't comment on customer
service policies.
