Question:
I'm going to buy a 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup and a self-contained 8.5 or 9.5 foot
slide-in camper to use in Colorado for 3 seasons out of the year. I'm
trying to make up my mind on purchasing a pop top camper or a hardside
camper. The way I see it, there are the advantages and disadvantages to
each:
Answer:
What I met by larger outside dimensions being a disadvantage is that you
need more clearance in the backcountry with the hardside camper.
I thought the lower maneuvering height of the popup would be a great
advantage over the hardside. Do you think this is true or not?
Do you find many places where low hanging tree limbs or the width of the
road or trail is too constricted for the height of your hardside?
This seems to be the greatest issue for me and I'm not sure what the
correct answer is. If the hardtop will go 80% or more of the places a
poptop will go, then I'd think I'd get the hardtop.
By the way is there much handling differance between a 8.5 and 9.5 foot
camper (on a full size truck)?
