Question:
why buy a camper trailer its just a tent on wheels?fire up u camper trailer
owners whats the big advantage etc.?
Answer:
-I understand where you're coming from. Just a tent on wheels ...sort of.
A tent with a stand up kitchen, and a bed you don't have to roll down onto
and off of. A trailer that will hold half the stuff you put in the back of
the truck. A bed that you dont have to worry about stony country...or mud so
much.
-Regardless of all the other issues Id say the big one is the weight and
towing capabilities. WAY easier to tow a camper trailer than a caravan,
even down to the wind resistance, lower centre of gravity, less wind sheer,
you can tow under cararks..... need I go on?
-We just went through this process with the exact same question.
Options:
Pop Top:
Good point: Very comfy.
Bad point: Fuel economy while towing and ability to travel off road.
Jayco Camper:
Good point: All the comforts of a pop top (well almost) and can be towed,
within reason, off road.
Bad Point: Still very heavy for a camper trailer, so fuel would then become
a factor.
Camper trailer:
Good Point: Great to tow, light and easily taken off road. Better fuel
economy on long trips
Bad Point: More set up time and basic accommodation.
Tent:
Good Point: Easy to store. No extra fuel consumed and can be taken anywhere
the 4WD will go.
Bad Point: Constant setting up of tent, bedding, kitchen etc. Stopping over
night becomes a real pain. Packing up next morning would be a bigger pain.
We settled on a camper trailer because it was the overall best compromise
for us. The word compromise featured very heavy in our decision as we could
not find the perfect solution.
We are explorers, not campers. We may stop in one location for a couple of
days but usually it would only be a "one night stand" with, perhaps, lots of
K's between stops.
I think we made the right choice, but only time will tell.
