Question:
I own a Jayco popup camper and have had a serious problem with it. Every
year for two years now, mice have gotten inside and chewed the canvas or
tent to shreds. It is in the garage now and I will have to purchase a
new tent at around 1000.00 for spring use.
I do not understand this problem as I previously owned a 1970 Starcraft
camper and in 7 years of storage , never had a mouse problem. I would
suggest anyone looking to purchase a Jayco camper --- be aware.
The dealer told me that they have never had a problem. This is a piece
of equipment meant for the outdoors.
Answer:
model, and I can see why mice could want to get in - food
scented/flavored canvas.
I have seen the inside construction of my trailer and can see how they
they can get in. Earlier last year I broke a lifter cable, couldn't get
it fixed at my dealer because of their service dept. backlog, so ended up
doing it myself. The inner workings of the trailer and the construction
did not impress me. The new '98 Jaycos I have recently seen leave me even
colder. I have also looked at Colemans, and they appear to be much
better built. What's going on with Jayco I can't say, but if I were in
the market to replace mine, I don't think I'd buy another.
This was my 1st camper, and my choice was based on word of mouth about
how good Jaycos were. I met another Jayco owner who had a trailer like
ours and who had had earlier Jaycos, which he said were better built than
his 1995.
Thanks for letting me vent about my Jayco. Good luck with yours. BTW, I
keep mine in my garage (detached), but I know I mice in there. I'll have
to keep a lookmour for this.
