Question:
I am close to buying a tent trailer and was leaning toward
Coleman/Fleetwood, but the prices are higher than other manufacturers.
I've been led to believe that the higher price is worth it, but now I
am concerned due to the future of the Coleman-Fleetwood partnership.
The removal of the Colemand brand on Fleetwood products makes me
wonder about (1) quality and (2) ability to get service performed in
the future.
Some people have told me that Jayco comes closest to Coleman/Fleetwood
when it comes to quality. Does anyone have feedback on this?
I live in San Diego and the closest Jayco dealer (who sells tent
trailers) is 100 miles away. Is the Jayco product worth the hassle?
Should I look at other brands? If so, then which ones? Am I worrying
too much about the Coleman-Fleetwood partnership?
Answer:
-In the beginning, I would have said go with the Coleman. Now that mine is 4
years old, I would tell you to go with any of the major brands. The
warranty on Coleman, while it looks good, is not as great as they make it
out to be, and the resale value will only get worse as relations between
Coleman and Fleetwood went sour. Now that Fleetwood has no one else looking
to QA the product, I feel they will go downhill fast. I can say from my own
experience, their customer service is lacking greatly when it comes to
resolving issues.
-I think the issue on Coleman/Fleetwood only resides on using the Brand
Name "Coleman". Fleetwood will still manufacture the same pop-up, but
without the brand name on it.
you may also want to look at Starcraft.. they also do very nice pop-ups
