Question:
I got a 68 or 69 Apache canvas pop-up camper for $100, and a free skamper
camper. Unknown to me, the Apache had a twisted frame OUCH. So I used the
frame from the skamper for it, the rest of the skamper was parted out. I'm
getting ready to go camping next week, I still have to make the canvas for
it.
I got 35 yards X 54 inch of 10.10 oz treated duck canvas, I will be
starting it in the next day or so. And it looked easyer to do then I first
thought, after thinking about it I got a roll top Q 20 foot X 2 inchs
velcro. My plan is to take and wrap the canvas around the camper, leaving
only the 2 tops above the bed to sew in into the canvas. Using the velcro to
hold the canvas in place, that will let me take the canvas and put it up and
down fast.
Has anyone done this, or do you think this will work ok as it is light
canvas ?
Answer:
I ant making it the same as the one that was on it, instead I got canvas
that is 54 inchs wide and 35 yards long. This is how I plan to do it, I will
not have any windows right now.
1) With the top up and screen door in place, I'm going to start at the right
side of the door.
2) Then I'll go all the way around to the left side of the door, fixing it
to the bottom ( out side ) and top ( inside roof ) with velcro.
3) That only leaves over the beds open some, so I'll sew tops into it over
the beds.
4) Then use velcro to fix it to the top inside roof, over the beds.
I don't care about making the canvas like it was before, only that this
canvas works. The velcro is top grade and water proof as well, the vlecro is
2 inchs wide and will be cut 4 inchs long. That gives me 60 , 4 X 2 to use
to do it. The canvas is 10.10 oz treated duck, it is much lighter then the
canvas that was on it.
I'm sorry I should have made it clearer, but now everyone should know much
better how I'm going to do it. I just need everyones guess and input, if the
velcro will hold the canvas good. I think it should, as velcro is pretty
strong. I plan to take the canvas up and down, as I open up the camper and
close it up again. That should keep the velcro in good shape, for along
time. This is better for me then spending, a $1000 I don't have right now
for the right canvas. Or sewing the hole canvas, by hand that takes alot of
time to do right.
And when I do get a $1000, I'll get a bigger one in better shape. But the
one I have will do for now, it should last me for a while anyway.
