Question:
We are looking to go from a tent to a pop-up camper. We are novices so
any advice or information would be appreciated.
Answer:
The best advice is to go to a variety of dealers with several brands and
look, look, look. We bought a Jayco 12 years ago and just upgraded to a
Coleman. We did the Jayco because it was slightly less costly with about
the same features. I wish we had gone with the Coleman from the
beginning. Look, but listen to your reactions and don't settle for less
than you really want. You'll regret it every time you hitch up and pull
out.
Having said all that, pop-ups are great. They provide some of the
openness of a tent without the size and weight of an enclosed trailer.
Look for ease of setup and lots of storage space. An awning is a must.
It adds living "space" and provides a great cover in bad weather. We find
that we don't use things like the extra stove that you can set up
outside-- The curtains on the inside can be a real pain, so examine them
carefully for simplicity. If you have to take them down every time you
set up, you'll hate it.
