Slide in truck campers vs. pop up

Question:
We are a young family (two kids 1 and 5 yrs. old) that is considering purchasing a camper for weekend trips. We have a six cylinder Dodge Caravan '97 and and 89 heavy duty Ford F 250 (regular cab). My delima is this: Should we get a pop up - difficult to pull but a better camper or should we get a slide in for the pickup? Can the kids ride in the slide in? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
We have friends that we camp with frequently who have a slide-in camper in their pickup, while we camp in a pop-up. The major disadvantage I see to the truck camper is that if you want to leave camp, the camper goes with you. This means disconnecting utilities, stowing everything, etc... Also, they have significantly less room than a pop-up. Your F250 would have no trouble at all with even the largest pop-up. I'm not sure on the legality of letting kids ride in the slide in. They would not be belted in, and with the rather high center of gravity, they can be prone to flip in an accident.
