Pulling small travel trailer

Question:
I'm seeking someone with knowledge about pulling a small travel trailer with a four door sedan. (Like my '93 Pk Ave Buick, w/3800 engine, 6 cyl.). I like my car and would like to keep it ~ it gets pretty good gas mileage. I'm looking to purchase a 13 ft. Fun Finder, Scamp or Casita. Even this small travel trailer, may be too much for my vehicle? It would primarily be pulled across parts of Iowa and Nebraska. Help will be appreciated. Thank you. Scamper

Answer:
-I pulled a 1500 lb popup with my 4 cyl. S10. Most said it could not be done I got 20+ mpg going from Louisiana to Georgia and back. It downshifted lots on the hills . It is an automatic. I would do it again. Had no trouble going 60 mph. FYI Slld

-What is the tow rating for your vehicle according to the owner's manual? If it says 1,000 pounds, then that is what you should tow with it. The reason they put these limits on vehicles is to prevent accidents. The brakes, suspension, transmission gearing and engine are tuned for your particular vehicle, and can't be compared to anything else. The person who mentioned the S10, has a truck, and it's intended purpose is much different than your car. I can tow a 6000lb trailer with my Toyota Sienna, but it doesn't mean I will anytime soon, it wouldn't be safe. Even at the maximum tow rating, you should really only be towing 75% of that, as you need to add passengers, fuel, and gear.
