Tent Trailers, infor???

Question:
I have a 1995 Honda Civic. Has anyone tried towing a pop-up trailer with this size/type vehicle? If so, do you encounter any problems? Also, what was the brand and weight of the trailer?

Answer:
-I would check the owner's manual for the maximum weight you can tow. Then check out the weight of the tent trailers you may be interested in. I have an Acura Integra which can tow 1000 lbs. When I went looking for a tent trailer, they all weighed more than that. I ended up with a very small Coleman (used '83) that weighs about 800 lbs. It pops out only on one end. There used to be a slightly larger one that pops out on both ends (sorry, the model names escape me right now...) that also was about 800-900 lbs. Coleman (now Fleetwood) had a model called the Colorado a couple of years back that weighed something like 650 lbs. No kitchen, no butane tank, just beds. Don't be too disappointed if you can't find anything light enough. The Civic engine is pretty small. Maybe your next car!! -We have an '88 Coleman Colorado which we pulled 8,600 miles with our 85hp '93 Saturn SL1 with auto trans (tow limit 1,000 lbs) and got 28.9 mpg end to end, all fuel consumed on the trip. Between the camping gear in the trlr and trunk I estimate we had the weight up to about the limit. BTW, the *only* amenity the Colorado has beyond beds and a table is a small port on the side into which you can introduce the electrical cord (not included) to have lights inside if there's AC power available.
