Question:
Whats the best quality camper shell to put on a 2001 2500 long bed?
,the mission should you decide to accept it, is to provide
input on what is a good quality camper shell to put on Tiph's new
2001/SLT+/QC/long bed/Cummins/6 spd/4.10 pickup that is her college
graduation present. (A moment of silence in appreciation of the
beloved 1995 truck that served us well for 152K miles and will
hopefully to go a good home.)
The camper shell will be purchased and installed in So. Cal. but truck
will be in South Bend Indiana for about 5 years so it needs something
that will cope with the weather there. I plan to have it no higher
than the roof of the cab and order it to match the color of the truck.
I'd like to get one that is good quality, will last, and has a good
strong door and latch assembly. I've been looking but there is
nothing that substitutes for experience with these things.
So, what do you like? What have you hated and sworn never to buy
again? Any suggestions?
Answer:
here in New England the weather is a little like Indiana and Leer
seems to be the cap of choice. I've used the hard tonneau and also a cap
with no problems with fit or quality. The color does not fade, they don't
leak at the windows, all in all a good piece of equipment. They are pricey
but you get what you pay for. There is a gasket that is sold that is a step
up from the factory provided gasket, it is like a refrigerator door gasket
which is the one I used. Regarding latch assembly well..... I tied the door
into the truck alarm with another switch.
