Question:
Looked at various faq's and other on-line resources, and now would like some
input from the horses mouth...
What to look for, what to avoid in buying a used truck camper.
Where do they usually leak, sag, bulge, etc.etc
FWIW - all the used ones seem to have been "used twice in 6 years and
garaged with the Bentley"
Budget is in the $5k - $9k ballpark
Want 8 1/2 ' - 9 1/2' footer / long bed
Truck is as big as they get (for slide in's that is) F350 CC Dually 4x4 w/
Banks blown Diesel
Answer:
-Don't forget, with that dually, you're going to have to weld on some
extensions onto the jacks, or you will knock it down when you try to back
the truck under it and your outside wheels hit the jack
-If it has a front window in the cab-over, check for leaks up there.
Include looking under the mattress toward the front end for any signs
of water damage.
Our first camper had problems there - I had to caulk it every year.
When it got demolished in an ice storm a few years ago, we replaced it
with a 9 1/2 foot ShadowCruiser, which has a one-piece front nose cone
with no front window. Ergo, no leakage.
